Point Mugu State Park Thornhill Beach, Malibu, California

Point Mugu State Park is separated into two different campgrounds: the beachfront Thornhill-Broome and the inland Sycamore Canyon. The two are very different places to camp. Thornhill-Broome is beachfront, nose-to-tail camping along Highway 1. All spots have little privacy, but are spacious, have ocean views, spectacular sunsets and have abundant sand for beach play. If you haven't camped here in a few years, the beach has undergone a change. Sites 1-40 that during the summer of 2010 offered beach/water access are once
again rocky with a bit of beach during low tide. Sites past site 40 have an even larger rock barrier between you and the water and slowly the sand will change to dirt and shrubs.  Highway 1 noise is a definite factor here, especially in the evening and early morning weekdays as commuters travel into Santa Monica along this route. It can get windy in the evenings here, typically from about 4 in the afternoon until about an hour after sunset. At Sycamore Canyon a quieter riparian oak setting is what you'll find. Sites are pretty and woodsy, but this camp is mostly inhabited by tent campers and parking a medium to large sized rig in here can be difficult.

Location
Good Sites @ Thornhill-Broome: 1-40
Poor Sites @ Thornhill-Broome: 41 and up
Hookups: None
Potable Water: Yes
Dump within Facility: Only at Sycamore Canyon

The beach location is right off the highway and rigs are bumber to bumber. Great beach access and view but for my liking no atmosphere.
