Indian Cove Campground, Joshua Tree National Park, California

Indian Cove Campground is similar to most of the other campgrounds within Joshua Tree in that the campground is primitive. No potable water, dirt pads and lots of scenery make this campground a beautiful place to settle in for a few days.  Most campsites, typical of other campgrounds within the park, share a driveway with other sites, making this campground better suited for tenters. What makes Indian Cove unique to Joshua Tree's other campgrounds is its location within the park: there is no direct access from the campground to the park, so if you wish to explore

the park, be prepared to drive, however the isolation is something to be revered. Campsites here are spectacular, with heaping piles (sometimes mountains!) of boulders next to every site, making climbing a popular activity here with both kids and professionals. We spent a good portion of  our days just watching avid climbers scale the enormous boulders. These boulders collectively create a kind of "harbor" that keeps campsites protected from desert winds. We found that despite its disconnection from the main park, Indian Cove's beauty gave us a great feel of the park, and was one of the most enjoyable parts of the park.
