Calico Ghost Town Campground, Barstow, California
both Easter and the kickoff to the Holiday Season here which included festive music, caroling, complimentary hot cocoa and cookies for all and of course a tree lighting by Santa himself!
The campground itself is adjacent to the town. Campground fees gain you admittance into the town. Day use visitors need to pay a nominal fee to visit the town. The campground has many full, partial and non-hookup sites. Depending on your needs, chances are there is a site available to you. Sites are fairly barren and close together, but do offer protection from the winds that often come along with a desert visit, as Calico is nestled into the base of the mountains. All sites offer picnic tables, while only some offer fire pits. Interior roads are paved in some areas, dirt in others. All site pads are dirt, and we found those in the A loop to be the most level. A short walk on a trail leads you into the historical town site. Adjacent to the campground and town site is an OHV area, popular with some campers. Calico is very hot in the summer can be frigid in the winter. Spring and Fall are the best seasons to visit.
