Hersheypark Camping Resort, Hummelstown, Pennsylvania
you to feel that you are in a true "camping resort." Put into a pinch, however, we headed back towards the resort and snagged one of the few sites left at the end of the day with the help of friendly reservation staff. The resort is huge, with well over a few hundred sites and nearly fifty cabins to rent. The park is clearly geared towards spending your days as Hersheypark where you can not only visit the Hershey Factory, but an amusement park brings smiles to family faces, or the kids at least. A shuttle from the campground takes you across town to the park at all hours of the day and evening. When you are back at the resort, three pools, playgrounds, basketball court, volleyball court, horse shoe pit, group pavilions, a theater, and arcade all offer entertainment. In the evenings, a DJ resides by the pool blasting the latest pop tunes for kids and families to enjoy. Laundry and bathhouses are available as well. We found the resort to be a little loud and jammed with sites that are fairly close together, especially in the Carrousel Circle, and a train that runs what seemed hourly along the border of the resort property. For such a hefty price tag, we had expected better interior road conditions and for site pads to be paved and level, not gravel pads. Complimentary trash pick up in some sites was a perk. Sites in the no hookup area are geared more for tenters and offer more space. In the end, we had a decent place to rest our heads after a reservation fiasco, but we would not make this a destination in and of itself.
