Upper Onion Campground, Moab, Utah
group sites which can be reserved in advance. All the sites here are beautiful with stunning views. The campground is a haven for OHV users and mountain bikers. A trail central to the campground, the Rose Garden Trail, leads all the way into Colorado state. We traveled the trail a few miles in on our bikes. With over a couple of dozen creek crossings, this was a mountain biking adventure! The early miles of the trail are fairly flat and wide, traveling through a beautiful red sandstone canyon where you will spot hoodoos, however the trail does increase in difficulty as you go farther. Back at camp, you will find spacious sites, beautiful views, and primitive camping. Roads and site pads are gravel. Sites have a table, fire pit, and level, dirt tent pads. There is not a trash dumpster here, so the pack it in, pack it out rule applies. Be sure to arrive with plenty of water and empty gray/black tanks as there is no dump or fill station. During our two night stay, we marveled at dark starry night skies and the quiet this off the highway campground provides. Spring and fall are busy here, so securing a site early in the day is crucial. During our stay, the campground was full by early afternoon. If full, Lower Onion and Fisher Towers Campground are all within a couple of miles.
